About Brenton

Brenton has extensive experience in the delivery of Road, Earthworks, Drainage and Highway design projects in Planning, Concept, Preliminary and Detailed Design stages for State and local Governments across QLD and NT. 


Brenton has proven experience in working with Austroads Design Standards and the accompanying supplementary documentation prepared by Local and State Governments. I am highly experienced in the use of 12d model, AutoCad, as well as the leadership qualities to complete projects within the timely manner. 


Brenton is a dedicated community leader with a deep passion for fostering local connections and supporting the growth of others. As a seasoned touch football coach, he has successfully guided teams at both the local and state levels, helping athletes develop their skills and achieve their full potential. Through his commitment to the sport and the community, Brenton has become a respected mentor, known for instilling teamwork, discipline, and a love for the game in players of all ages.

OTT is a rebranding of the work we were completing under HARO Civil Engineering but focusing purely on a supply and support of Design and Drafting services to Local government/TMR and Engineering companies across QLD.

While working at Haro Civil Engineering Brenton’s role encompassed the following: managing and designing civil design projects, building relationships with clients, managing the civil design team to ensure projects are delivered on time, complete design reviews and complete design documentation. Below is a brief overview of some of the projects he has undertaken:

  • Warwick Cycle Way Network strategy – Business Case and Detailed design of 10km of Urban Cycle way infrastructure in Warwick, QLD CBD which includes widening of the existing streets to accommodate on street parking and median separated Cycle Networks throughout the CBD. Brenton was responsible for the stormwater modelling, stakeholder communication and design and documentation (include final estimate). 
  • Lillyvale Road Reconstruction – Responsible for the design and documentation of 12km of Rural road upgrade works. 
  • Bauman Way Upgrade – Design and Documentation for the Urban Road rehabilitation in Blackwater, QLD

Senior Civil Designer

 June 2016 – September 2019 (SMEC)

As Senior Designer Designer for SMEC Brenton was responsible for the development of the team skills, mentoring younger staff with their cadetship, connecting with clients, design reports, design reviews, design and documentation including annexures and specifications. Some of the projects Brenton had completed at SMEC :

  • Mount Low Parkway Upgrade OA and BC (Townsville) – Lead Designer
  • NDBC Bridge replacement Programme OA and BC (Townsville) – Lead Designer ($110 million)
  • Banksia Valet Car park and Sediment basin Detailed design (Brisbane) – Lead Designer 
  • Lomandra footpath network detailed design (Brisbane) – Lead Designer
  • Gun point road detailed design (Northern territory) – Lead Designer 
  • Katherine Solar Farm Civil Works (Northern Territory) – Lead Designer 
  • Walgett Solar Farm intersection (Norther Territory) – Lead Designer 
  • Dalrymple Road 4 Lane works DD ($25 million) (Townsville) – Lead Designer/Project manager/Drafter
  • Cloncurry bridge replacement DD (Cloncurry) – Design reviewer /Job Manager
  • TNAU (Townsville) BC– Lead Designer
  • Secondment as Senior Designer for Townsville City Council 6 months to build client relations. 
  • Secondment as a senior designer to TMR Toowoomba 6 months to build client relations. 
  • Gateway Upgrade North (Brisbane) ($1.413 billion) – Lead Designer for the TTM works and Drafting Coordinator. 
  • Logan Enhancement Project ($512 million): As one of 4 Designers I was responsible for the detailed design of the south facing road ramps at Crompton road, responsible for Updating drainage models to reflect changes in design, responsible for the output of all design content for all sections of the entire project. 

Senior Civil Designer

 July 2010 – October 2013 (GHD)

  • Supervised, mentored and coordinated the activities of up to 5 drafting staff.
  • Coordinated a supervisory role ensuring time objectives and project progress; and managed and resolved logistical and quality issues to complete projects
  • Calculated project estimations and costings; developed Bills of Quantities and scope of works; and continually monitored every stage including: planning and scheduling, physical and human resources, budget/costings, materials, communications, quality and risk assessment/management
  • Developed and compiled project/contractual documentation including: concept, preliminary and detailed design plans; Bills of Quantities, Planning Reports and specifications documentation
  • Conducted site inspections of works to ensure compliance with “fit-for-purpose” specifications and industry standards/practices
  • Fostered positive relationships and worked collaboratively with key stakeholders including: staff at all levels, external contractors, and Department of Transport and Main Roads

Cadet Civil Designer

 Jan 2006 – July 2010 (Transport & Main Roads)

  • Analysed briefs and key deliverables; inspected proposed area; and designed road and infrastructure concept and detailed design plans using AutoCAD and 12D, and taking into consideration: anticipated land use, topography, traffic patterns, social/environment issues, safety/environment standards, budgets and construction economy
  • Developed drainage solutions for projects, and constantly kept abreast of changes and/or new techniques
  • Calculated project estimations and costings; developed project scope of works; and continually monitored every stage including: planning and scheduling, physical and human resources, budget/costings, materials, communications, quality and risk assessment/management
  • Coordinated and delivered in-house staff training on drainage upgrades (ie. delivered state-wide), and the Works Management System (WMS)
  • Interpreted and complied with governing legislation, organisational guidelines, and quality/safety/environmental standards.

  • Boundary Street Rehabilitation – designed road for rehabilitation works for usage by V8 Supercars
  • Bowden Road/Church Street Concept Design
  • Edward Street, Ayr – designed for line marking and pedestrian crossing works
  • Home Hill Pedestrian Crossing – concept design works
  • Burdekin Bypass Concept Design (Bruce Highway Realignment)
  • Preliminary Designs for – Palmetum Intersection, Woodstock to Giru Road, and Rainbow Road.
